Thanks to a grant from Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful, we are pleased to announce the addition of a special category for RECYCLING / LITTER ABATEMENT PSA'S or DOCUMENTARIES in the 2012 Conejo Valley Teen Video Festival.


About the Teen Video Festival
The Conejo Valley Teen Video Festival is an annual event produced by the Thousand Oaks Youth Commission and the Conejo Recreation and Park District that showcases the creative talent of youth in our area. The festival is open to all teens (ages 12-19 and not enrolled in college) living in Ventura County and/or the greater Conejo Valley.  Visit the official Festival website for more information.


What we’re looking for in the Recycling PSA/Documentary category:
Only PSA’s and/or documentaries that focus on the following topics will be considered in this category.

• Recycling
• Litter abatement
• Diversion (aka. keeping stuff out of the landfill)
• And other ways of beautifying our community by managing our waste. 

Entries that can be used in grades K-12 to publicize and support school recycling activities will be given special consideration.

PSA’s must be less than 2 minutes, including credits. Documentaries must be less than 10 minutes long, including credits.

Be sure to use only original music - using copyrighted music without permission will disqualify your entry.


What we’re NOT looking for in Recycling PSA/Documentary category:
Entries with the following characteristics will not be considered in this category.

• Entries specifically dealing with water conservation, global warming, deforestation or other environmental issues not listed above.
• Entries not suitable for viewing by all audiences. In other words – keep it “G” rated.
• Entries that contain copyrighted music (unless explicit copyright permission has been obtained).


Awards:

• A special scholarship/award will be given to a student and their school for the best educational/informational piece on school recycling, diversion or litter abatement. The winning student will receive a $750 scholarship and their school will receive $1,000.

• Entries in this category will be judged by a separate panel of environmental industry professionals.

• Entries in this category will also be considered for awards in the other Teen Video Festival categories (Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Technical Achievement, Best Actor/Actress, Best Overall Video)


How to Participate:

1. Visit www.conejoteenvideofestival.org for more information and download your application. Make sure you read and understand all application guidelines and entry criteria.

2. Attend a video production workshop on January 28th or February 18th at the T.O. Teen Center to discuss your project and learn everything you need to know about shooting and producing your video (optional - but highly recommended). Click here for details.

3. Shoot your PSA or Documentary – get creative and have fun!

4. Prepare your video 
    - Entries must be submitted in standard DVD format. 
    - Each entry must have a title, artist or group name, address, phone number and school on the DVD.

5. Submit your entry along with a completed Teen Video Festival Entry Form to the Thousand Oaks Teen Center no later than Wednesday, May 9, 2012 by 5:00 p.m.

6. Premiere screenings of the nominees will be held in June 2012 at a time and place to be determined.

7. Winners will be announced at the Conejo Teen Video Festival award ceremony on June 27, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Scherr Forum Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.


The Fine Print:

• On submission, entries become property of the City of Thousand Oaks.  Submissions will remain the property of the City of Thousand Oaks and may be reproduced, publicly displayed, streamed and disseminated.
• All videos will be handled with care.  However, the Video Festival Committee accepts no responsibility for loss, damage or theft.
• The Festival reserves the right not to present awards in a category if the submissions do not fulfill the requirements.
